Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
