Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
